The Directors of Klein Constantia are pleased to announce that the Anwilka Vineyards will be amalgamated with their renowned historical estate to form a new business, Klein Constantia (Pty) Ltd.
Anwilka Vineyards in Stellenbosch was created in 2005 by Lowell Jooste (the former coowner of Klein Constantia) along with Hubert de Boüard (co-owner of Chateau Angélus in Saint-Emilion) and Bruno Prats (former owner of Chateau Cos d’Estournel in SaintEstèphe).
Whereas Klein Constantia is famous for wines like the legendary Vin de Constance and its excellent Sauvignon Blanc, Anwilka Vineyards has established a worldwide reputation for its Syrah-Cabernet blends, Anwilka.
So, although each vineyard will maintain its own brand identity, the Constantia estate will continue to specialise on its cool climate style of wines while the Stellenbosch farm focuses on fuller bodied reds.
Hubert de Boüard and Bruno Prats will remain as minority shareholders in the new company. Lowell Jooste will pursue new interests and will become a non-executive director of the new company.
Hans Astrom, Klein Constantia Managing Director, had this to say : “The Stellenbosch vineyards of Anwilka will be a great addition to Klein Constantia, and we are very happy to welcome Hubert and Bruno as partners. Together we want to establish Klein Constantia’s positioning as the iconic South African wine brand.”
Hubert de Boüard and Bruno Prats added: “We are very excited at the prospect of extending our expertise to the historical terroir of Klein Constantia, and strongly support the ambitious plans to further raise both the quality and reputation of Klein Constantia and its wines.”
