SHIRAZ - no
longer in production
|
|
| Vintage |
2004 |
|
| General |
We label it as Shiraz, but purists
might prefer to refer to it as Syrah in deference to
its elegance and the peppery character associated with
the wines of the northern Rhone.
|
|
| Description |
Deep ruby in colour. The
nose is crammed with aromas of bramble berries, blueberries,
savoury truffle-notes and subtle woodspice. The palate
is full flavoured and smoothly textured, with finely balanced
acidity and beautiful length. The combination of pure
fruit expression and softly textured palate makes this
a dangerously drinkable wine. |

| Wine Record |
After a long 2004 harvest, this was
one of the last vineyards to be picked at Klein Constantia.
The ripe, healthy fruit was fermented in the traditional
manner using pumpovers to softly extract tannin and flavours
from the fermenting grapes. Malolactic fermentation took
place in 2nd and 3rd fill barriques where the wine matured
for 18 months before bottling. |
