Klein Constania

Chardonnay 2006

Chardonnay 2006

The blustery but otherwise problem-free 2006 vintage has been claimed as an outstanding one for white wines. Strong winds delayed the harvesting of ripe, healthy grapes by an average of two weeks.

After the wait for full ripeness (occurring as late as April in some vineyards), Chardonnay bunches were harvested and whole-bunch pressed. Partial malolactic fermentation has retained some of the naturally fresh acidity that is the hallmark of Constantia wines. Prior to bottling, the wines was matured on the lees for 11 months to enhance freshness and complexity.

Tasting Notes

Pale yellow-gold in colour, with butterscotch intermingled with apple and oatmeal. Rich, concentrated and invigoratingly fresh citrus flavours are underpinned by well-integrated oak, leading to a long and skilfully balanced finish.
