Klein Constania

Chardonnay 2007

Chardonnay 2007

Near perfect vine growing conditions in the lead up to harvest resulted in ripe, healthy grapes of an excellent quality

A small portion of this vintage’s ripe and healthy whole-bunch pressed Chardonnay grapes were fermented in tank before being put into barrel. The wine was left on fine lees for just under a year to ensure freshness, complexity and dimension. Partial malolactic fermentation retains a natural fresh acidity that is a feature of Constantia wines. Bottled under screwcap.

Tasting Notes

Pale yellow-gold in colour, with subtle butterscotch and orange blossom aromas. Citrus marmalade flavours are balanced by taut acidity, which carry the wine to a lean but flavoursome finish.

Maturation

Will reward maturation in bottle until 2015

Barrel Aging

Majority was fermented in 2nd and 3rd fill 300 and 500-litre French barrels
