Klein Constania

Chardonnay 2008

Chardonnay 2008

Despite the untimely rains during the harvesting period, this year produced fresh, aromatic white wines with lifted acidity and great length.

A smaller vintage than usual yielded very concentrated fruit. A component of stainless steel tank fermented wine was included in the blend to provide freshness and acidic lift. Partial malolactic fermentation. Lees ageing for approximately 10 months prior to the date of bottling.

Tasting Notes

A rich, classic combination of oatmeal and citrus flavours nuanced by aromas of almond and white chocolate. The palate entry is punctuated by a limey acidic note which helps to maintain a fresh edge to the otherwise plush oak influence. Finishes on a complex, lengthy note.

Maturation

Will reward maturation in bottle until 2015

Barrel Aging

Fermentation took place mostly in new French oak barrels of 500L in volume, with some smaller third fill barrels of 300L.
