Klein Constania

Marlbrook 2009

Marlbrook 2009

2009 was the first year that all the grapes from the blend went through the Klein Constantia sorting table.

For the first time, no Cabernet Sauvignon was used in this blend, and making it our first Merlot-based Marlbrook blend.

The Merlot was complemented by our excellent Malbec fruit, with structure and backbone of some Petit Verdot and a dash of Shiraz, to add a little finesse and complexity.

Each and every barrel was tasted, evaluated and carefully selected to meet with the classic Marlbrook style.

After blending, the wine was returned to barrel for four more months, taking the total time in barrel to 22 months. This allowed for further development and tannin integration, evident in the wine today.

Tasting Notes

This is a typically complex and elegant Constantia red with aromas of classic dark chocolate, cinnamon spice and cigar box. A silky complex tannin follows with loads of structure, complimented by a dark fruit core. All these components result is a rich and elegant dry finish.

Barrel Aging

After blending, the wine was returned to barrel for a further 4 months taking the time in barrel to 26 months. This allowed for further development and tannin integration which is very evident in the wine today
