MME Marlbook 2004

Long overdue from Klein Constantia comes a flagship white blend to showcase our rich viticultural potential for the production of fine white wines.

Tasting Notes

An immediate burst of passion fruit and pineapple is evident, with some boxwood whiffs mingling with floral muscat character. The nose develops creamy vanilla characters and oak spice. Initially the palate shows minerally, greengage flavours associated with semillon, and is slightly honeyed. The palate displays a feast of juicy tropical fruits and a broad creamy texture, underpinned by the influence of oak and the ever-present, delightfully fresh floral tones of muscat de frontignan.

Barrel Aging

Barrel fermentation of the various vineyard components took place in two different oak formats, 300L hogsheads and 500L butts . The wines matured on lees for a further 11 months in barrels in order to develop complexity and a degree of barrel character. Care was taken in order to ensure that the varietal character of the grapes was not lost to over-oaking.
