Pinot Noir 2004

Pinot Noir 2004

Although usually associated with continental climes, our Pinot vineyard sits atop the farm overlooking False Bay. This decidedly maritime position makes for a fresh, vibrant interpretation of Pinot noir.

Laced with hints of fresh cherries, the overall impression on the nose is that of smoked coppa ham. Rich and earthy with a slight hint of dry tobacco. This is definitely a wine that displays something of the windswept hillside on which the grapes are grown.

Tasting Notes

True to Pinot noir, the palate is wonderfully fresh and vibrant, although those expecting weedy tannins will be disappointed. Thanks to judicious oak maturation in a combination of new and old oak ‘pieces’, the palate is tautly structured with a wonderfully smooth texture. The finish ends on a high note, and lingers substantially.

4-5 years.

Barrel Aging

Harvested in mid-February of 2005, the wine was fermented in opened out 500L barrels. Manual punchdowns and gentle pressing in basket presses were the order of the day. From there the wine was barrel matured for 10 months before bottling.
