Klein Constania

Riesling 1997

Riesling 1997

Grown on the cool south-facing mountain slopes of Klein Constantia Estate.

Light rain often falls in the period leading up to the harvest. This produces conditions that are perfect for botrytis cinerea (noble rot). The 1997 vintage was no exception. We believe that some noble rot enhances the wine’s character and therefore harvest the Rhine Riesling together with the botrytis.

Tasting Notes

Off dry. Greenish straw. Grapey, vinous nose with tropical fruit aromas. Luscious mouthfeel. Good sugar / acid balance with a fresh, grapefruit and lime finish.

Maturation

We recommend the wine for drinking now, but it will also improve with another four years in the bottle.
